Personality quizzes: Do they work?

Benefits

Whether it is a pub quiz, general knowledge quiz or Buzzfeed quiz, we think it is fair to say that everybody loves a quiz these days. You just cannot beat them, and quizzes can work in pretty much every context too.

Obviously most people are probably used to the concept of a pub quiz, but due to the emergence of this little thing we call the Internet there are now more variations of quiz than ever before!

Personality quizzes such as the Myers Briggs Personality Test or 16 Personalities Test are getting more and more popular in the modern day, buoyed by other personality quiz examples such as the ones you can find in the wonderful world of Buzzfeed quizzes. But do personality quizzes work? Let’s explore the topic!

What is a personality quiz?

First things first, what is a personality quiz? Well, you might have read our previous article about Buzzfeed quizzes here, [why do people love Buzzfeed quizzes so much] where we explained that a large part of their appeal is down to the fact they can tell you something about yourself, and this is exactly why personality quizzes are so popular too.

The idea is that you answer a load of quiz questions with absolutely no bias, and then a specific personality profile is generated for you using your answers. It works a bit like a personality test, and it can be a great way to find things out about yourself that you may not have realised.

Some popular examples of a personality quiz

There are countless examples of personality quizzes available in the 21st century, and many of them can be found on the popular online community Buzzfeed, with Buzzfeed personality quizzes being extremely popular. Aside from this is the world of Harry Potter House Quizzes, which tell you about yourself via the famous Harry Potter houses such as Gryffindor and Slytherin.

There are also slightly more serious personality quizzes to check out such as the Myers Briggs personality test, or the 16 Personalities Test. These will give you a more well-rounded picture of your personality.

The positives of personality quizzes

It can be difficult to truly appreciate the kind of person you are without having a 3rd person view of yourself, and this is exactly what a good personality quiz can give you. They are, therefore, incredibly useful for really getting an honest and well-rounded picture of your own personality.

Another great thing about personality quizzes such as a Buzzfeed personality quiz is that they are just great fun. It can be hilarious to compare the results amongst your friends, for example, especially if they actually make sense.

The negatives of personality quizzes

We always like to be honest over at Winzum, and that means also exposing some of the negatives of personality quizzes. The main thing is that most people’s personalities are perhaps slightly too complex to be accurately predicted via a simple online personality quiz, something that many people forget.

Following on from this, you could be told of your personality via the Myers Biggs Personality Test, for instance, and then start to actively change the way you present yourself in order to bring you more in line with the results.
