Are the This Morning competitions fixed?

Winning History

Out of all the various different competitions that people can enter in the modern world, the ITV This Morning competitions are by far some of the most popular. ITV competitions in general are all the rage these days, with a selection of massive prizes that can range from several hundred thousand pounds in cash, or even a brand new very expensive car.

This is all well and good, however over the years there have also been a few cases of controversy surrounding the This Morning competitions, and other ITV competitions too. Now, at Winzum we hate just pointing the finger, but we are also fully committed to keeping our lovely competition community safe. With that in mind we thought we’d explore the question: are the This Morning competitions fixed?

What are the This Morning competitions?

First things first, it’s not going to be particularly easy to answer the question if you don’t actually know what This Morning competitions are, so let’s have a run through. Basically, the This Morning competitions are competitions run by the incredibly popular chat show This Morning, starring the iconic duo Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

Although there are plenty of online competitions offered by This Morning, there is also an incredibly exciting regular segment of the show that features a Spin To Win type system using a prize wheel. This is where some of the controversy surrounding This Morning competitions has come from in the past.

Controversy surrounding other ITV competitions

ITV competitions are enjoyed by millions of people in the UK, and for the most part they are completely legitimate, however there has also been controversy surrounding ITV competitions other than the This Morning competitions before.

The most high profile is probably the GMTV phone-in scandal that was uncovered back in 2007, something that is often called the biggest fraud in UK TV history. For more information on this we have been nice enough to tell the story in an article here [Ever heard of the GMTV phone-in scandal].

Examples of This Morning competitions that have thrown up questions

Although it’s by no means the majority public opinion, people wouldn’t be worrying about This Morning competitions being fixed if there was no reason for it. Over the years there have been a few times where it seems as though a This Morning competition could have genuinely been fixed, although a deeper look usually confirms that they haven’t.

For example, back in 2018 a woman named Joy won a This Morning competition in January, and then appeared on the show later that year in March to talk about her struggle against ovarian cancer. Many people took this a bit suspiciously, however as it turned out ITV only heard about her life story after she won the initial competition.

Are the This Morning competitions really fixed?

So, are the This Morning competitions really fixed then? In all probability, no; especially after ITV have been hit with fines before, the most high-profile being the £2 million Ofcom fine as a result of the GMTV phone-in competitions scandal.

At the end of the day you do always have to be careful when it comes to online competitions, as anybody could be out to get you. One thing we’re certain of, however, is that our Winzum competitions will never ever ever be fixed… It’s just not who we are!
